ALL ABOUT YOGA WITH EVE GUILBERT - AN INTERVIEW
Hey guys, here I am on a Thursday! Weird, right?! I usually don't post on Thursdays, but today is International Yoga day, so I really HAD to. For a long time, I've been wanting to interview someone about yoga and the perfect occasion just showed up!
Today, I'm giving you guys this interview all about yoga and wellness. I'm really happy about this one, because I got to interview Eve Guilbert. Eve was my first and best friend as a child. Litteraly half of my childhood pictures have her face on them, ha! As teenagers, we kind of each went our own way, and a few months ago, we found each other on Instagram.
Now, she's all about yoga and wellness and she even teaches yoga in Montreal, where we both grew up. Without further ado, I give you: Eve Guilbert!
Eve In A Nutshell
Age: Late 20's
City: Montreal, Canada
Job: Marketing coordinator by day and yoga teacher by night
Favourite food: I’m really craving poké bowls right now, it’s all my favourite ingredients in one bowl
You in 3 words: Positive, Balanced and Sensitive
Biggest fear: Loosing someone
First, can you please tell me a little about your story: What’s your background, how did you get where you are today?
My passion for movement started with ballet, which I’ve been practicing since I was a child. When I was a teenager, I gave up on dance because I wanted to start working part-time, to be more independent. I couldn’t wait to do things on my own and take my own decisions. So I started working as a receptionist at a gym. That’s when I discovered group classes like aerobics, pilates, bodybuilding, etc. Very quickly, I started taking classes to be able to teach those. At the same time, I was taking yoga classes with my mom at a small studio in our neighbourhood. In 2015, I did my Wanderlust 200hrs teaching training, while completing a bachelor’s degree in Marketing administration.
By looking at your Instagram account, one could describe you as a yoga-focused influencer… Is that accurate? How would you describe what you do exactly?
I adore yoga and everything that has to do with wellness. My goal is to share my knowledge on these topics with people who share the same interests.
Why yoga? What attracted you to that universe? How does yoga make you feel, did you notice some benefits?
Physically, I love that practice because I feel like it’s taking care of my body. Emotionally, I’m convinced that it brought me more self-confidence. It’s hard to explain, but every time I practice, I feel like I’m working on my inner strength.
Do you have a favourite yoga position, and why?
Since I’m a pretty calm person, I love doing backbends, because they’re very energizing.
Let’s say someone wants to start yoga, what first steps would you recommend?
Try many studios until you find the best style of yoga for you.
Let’s talk gear a little. Aside from a yoga mat and yoga pants, is there something you use everyday in your flow? Do you have any favourite products (or brands) that really changed your yoga game?
Music! It really allows me to escape in my practice.
It’s hard to talk about yoga without talking about wellness. Aside from yoga, do you have any other wellness essentials? What if you could only give someone 3 wellness tips?
To me, wellness is all about balance. My 3 essentials are a good night’s sleep, giving myself a little bit of time for self-care every day, and a healthy diet.
What’s your favourite thing about what you do?
I like being a part of a community of like-minded people, with whom I can exchange freely and honestly.
Your Instagram feed is very beautiful and inspiring. Is it always as glamorous as it seems? What are the least glamorous parts of the “behind-the-scenes”?
Thank you! It’s important to be very positive and flexible, because things rarely go the way you plan them, especially when it comes to weather and locations. I also frequently have to change in my car (I have a Fiat 500, ha!).
What was your biggest struggle to get where you are today and how did you get over it?
Believing in myself. For a long time, I had the impostor syndrome. I was considering myself lucky to get opportunities, instead of recognizing that I was deserving.
What’s a typical day in your life?
On weekdays, I get up really early to practice yoga at 7am and then I go to work until 5pm. When I’m not teaching yoga at night, I love spending time with my little dog, Albert.
Let’s end it on a high note: What’s your greatest achievement, the thing you’re most proud of?
I’m just proud of the person I became.
Guys, I hope you enjoyed this interview as much as I did. I definitely learned a lot through Eve's answers, especially about the way yoga can improve self-confidence. I feel like this is an issue a lot of women are dealing with, and yoga certainly feels like a great way to work on our inner selves. A lot of people view it as a physical exercise, but it's not the first time I hear about how it's so much more than that.
Doesn't this interview make you just wanna sign up to your local yoga studio and start humming? I really feel like I need to make a quick playlist and go do a few backbends by the beach now, ha!
I'd love to get your feedback on this interview! As usual, you can leave me a comment below or hit me up on Instagram. You also HAVE to check out Eve's Instagram, @eveguilbert. If you're in Montreal, also check out her classes! I've never been to one yet, although I will definitely try to stop by next time I'm in Montreal... But if Eve is as kind, attentive and warm as I remember her, I'm sure her yoga lessons are THE BOMB!
And lastly, if you're curious about the last time I posted on a Thursday, read this post about how women need to step up their feminist game, that I published (you guessed it!) for International Women's Day.
Love you guys!
